About Era

Era Martin is the discoverer and teacher of Rutanda Yoga. She has lectured and taught its three-step meditation and dance sequences to adult individuals and groups in the U.S., at the Universal Peace Hall in Hiroshima, and at Fo Guang Shan Monastery in Taiwan.

Her discovery of Rutanda was the culmination of a spiritual journey that led her around the world and ultimately to Japan. Over the course of 12 years there, she was recognized by two traditional Japanese spiritual masters, Takenori Sera Sensei and Tsuyoshi Nara Sensei, to study and practice with them and then to join them, as the third embodiment of a profound spiritual lineage. When Era discovered Rutanda in deep meditation, she presented it to Sera Sensei, who accepted it as a powerful expression of their common practice. These masters understood that her American birthplace created a Yin and Yang balance of East and West in that practice.

Era, born Debra Martin, has resided in Egypt, Japan, Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, and China, and spent extensive time in India and Indonesia. She has been able to openly observe and encounter numerous cultures and societies. Era has studied and internalized several of the belief systems that are the foundation of those cultures and societies. She came to realize that everyone is interconnected with the same Source, and the Natural Path, based on the roots of Shinto and Nature’s principles, interweaves her various experiences and understandings together.

She has published a comprehensive manual, ‘Rutanda: Return to Your Essence through Meditative Yoga Movement’, to accompany her teachings.

These days, you can find Era digging in her California garden when she’s not teaching or writing.
